Meet Barb

In kindergarten I started playing music and singing for my class.

Music has always a part of who I am. It has been a constant presence in my life and companion while going through difficulties and celebrating great times.

I have maintained a large trumpet studio for the past 30 years (I started young!) and been an active freelance musician in the Seattle area.

My students have distinguished themselves winning awards such as the State Solo contest, top positions in All Northwest Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. They have won awards at The Essentially Ellington Competition, Lionel Hampton and more.

They have performed with the Seattle Youth Symphony and been in leadership positions in their schools. They have also won scholarships to many Universities over the years paying all or part of their tuition.

I am proud of these accomplishments, but the most satisfying parts for me are my students’ learning, growth, and expression of themselves, and the fun they have in the process.

Barb Hudak

I’ve enjoyed performing with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Auburn Symphony, the Bolshoi Ballet, shows at the Village Theater, the Paramount, the Jazz Police, Bumbershoot, along with many weddings, brass quintets and recording sessions.

I have also been the Director of Bands at Cascade High School in Everett, WA and Tyee Middle School in Bellevue, WA, as well as a coach for the Seattle Youth Symphony.

I have a BA in Music Education from Central Washington University and have also studied with Tim Morrison, Fred Sautter, and Charles Butler. I was awarded a scholarship to study with the Empire Brass at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center.

After completing my studies, I decided to stay in the Northwest and share my expertise with public school kids who otherwise didn’t have access to that level of learning.

In addition to trumpet, I’ve dabbled in other interests which led me complete a certificate as a corporate trainer from the UW, to work in the Occupational Safety and Health profession, to study transformational coaching, sports psychology, and mindfulness in performance.

My interests now are heading towards making meaning of the arts and why they are important especially with the focus on STEM learning. How we use our minds and bodies to project our intention and expression and focus our power in performance - whether it be in music performance, athletic performance, or business leadership.

I coach my students to find their own expression and power through music and have it transfer to other areas of their lives.

I am a Northwest Native and love to enjoy all of the things that nature and our part of the country have to offer. I love nature, sports, travelling, music, and all kinds of people.

Contact me to find out about lessons or my groups. During the year I offer a trumpet ensemble, jazz jam, and some group lessons for students who are in 5th and 6th grade.

We can set up a time to talk on the phone to see if we are a good fit and you can ask me any questions you might have.
